Make your own Peavey 5150 / 6505 foot pedal switch!

Years ago when I had the marvellous Peavey 5150 Mk I head, I was mighty disappointed in the cheap plastic footswitch. It would slide all over the place and didn't feel like it would survive, unlike the head which is a tank!
So, getting a replacement with a decent case is easy....go here to Thomann.de and for a tenner you've a robust pedal....
but...where's the LED's?
Google revealed many a circuit diagram and advise but I'm no electrical wizard so I admit I jumped in without really knowing what was going on and picked up a couple of 5mm LED's and clips (holders).
Tape off the panel and mark the hole positions and drill with a sharp HSS drill....

After a few random attempts to get it working by literally just touching wires until the lights came on, it was alive!

Off course I had choose the super bright LEDs which nearly blinded anyone within 5 meters, so I scribbled some marker pen over them which tamed them enough to avoid prosecution. Sorted.

Here's a Martysguitar.co.uk version of a wiring diagram...enjoy.

  1. Did you use latching (on/off) or momentary type footswitches? And if you used momentary (normally open or normally closed type). I need it for my 5150 MK1 head. Really thanks for answer.

  2. Hi, I used the stock pedal from Thomann. See my link in the post, so I'm not sure if they are latching or momentary. I don't have the pedal anymore so can't check for you.
